The past 72 hours have been pretty crazy for the Brenay family. On Sunday morning I got up, went into Jonah's room to get him out of his crib, then started my normal walk down stairs and it happened....I lost my footing. First thing was to protect Jonah so I lifted him up in the air as I fell, but as soon as I hit the bottom I heard a loud "pop". Not even 3 seconds later Kevan was right next to me taking Jonah from my arms, Obi and Elijah came running down stairs wondering what was going on. Kevan staying calm, put Jonah in his porta crib, and came back to feel the bone, and told me we need to go to the ER. I hobbled to Kevan's man-chair, and he handed me Jonah again and told me to feed him as we started to call family near by that could watch the boys so we could go to the ER. My parents rushed over as soon as I called.
The ER wasn't busy, but it doesn't sound good when your husband tells the nurse, "she fell down the stairs" Let me be clear, my hubby loves me, and I'm just a klutz. We were pretty much seen the whole time we were at the ER, always doing something. After the first set of X-rays, they came in and told me that I had broken my upper ankle in 2 places but it wasn't the weight baring bone so I might be able to have a walking cast. They did several tests and said at this time they didn't see any ligament damage. After 6 hours at the ER I was released to go home in a splint and would be called later about having a regular cast put on.
After the whole ankle issue, I was able to stop and think about how bad, and what horrible timing this is. Kevan leaves in 5 weeks for Recruiter school! We are leaving to see his brother and sister in 2 weeks for family pictures! Jana and I are supposed to see Into the Woods next Saturday! And to top it off, how in the world am I supposed to get a baby carrier out of our Honda Fit while on crutches? We need a lot of prayer right now. I was just starting to get things ready for this move and now I feel like I'm 3 steps behind and on crutches to top it off. Wow it only took 2 seconds to change everything in this house!
